Ever since the first time I stepped foot in the Educational Reinforcement Center in Guatemala on January 27th, 2014, I knew my connection with Safe Passage would be lifelong. Four years later, after being on two Support Teams, becoming a Sponsor, becoming an Ambassador, and eventually helping to coordinate the Ambassador Program, I still think about my experiences with Safe Passage every day.

While spending a week on a Support Team learning about Safe Passage, I was able to learn how they provide opportunities for education, physical health, mental health, and so much more. I wanted to do everything I could to help ensure these opportunities would be around for years to come. At first, I felt that there was not much I could do – I was 18 years old and it was my senior year of high school, so I didn’t have a bunch of time on my hands to go down and volunteer for a long period of time.

I quickly learned about the Ambassador Program and realized that anything you can give is helpful! The children and adults involved at Safe Passage have big hopes and dreams for their future and their family’s future, and even just knowing someone is there supporting you through life makes a world of difference.

Ambassadors help to raise awareness about Safe Passage and the work the organization does in Guatemala from all around the globe.

Our goal is to motivate more people to take action and get involved at Safe Passage, whether it be through presentations in your community, fundraisers, participating in our monthly challenges, or even just telling your friends and family about the program and your experiences with it. It’s also a great way to meet other people in your area involved with Safe Passage, and work together to spread the word!

Anyone can become an Ambassador, and chances are you already share your stories about Safe Passage more often than you know! If you are interested in becoming a part of this growing community or learn more about it, please email ambassadors@safepassage.org and tell us more about yourself!

Maggie has been involved in many ways with Safe Passage for the past few years. As the Safe Passage Ambassador Coordinator, she reaches out to Support Teams, volunteers, and visitors to help them share their stories and connect with others. Join our growing community of Ambassadors today!
