Book Release

Angel of the Garbage Dump: How Hanley Denning Changed the World One Child at a Time
by Jacob Wheeler

From author Jacob Wheeler, comes a book about our founder, Hanley Denning, and is described as a story about hope and optimism, bravery and idealism, and finding the light in the darkest of places. It also shares the story of Safe Passage, from its humble beginnings to present day. For more information or to pre-order a copy of the book, visit www.AngeloftheGarbageDump.com.

We will be hosting four book readings with Jacob; two in Maine (Oct.) and two in Guatemala (Nov). The events will feature excerpts from Jacob’s book and discussions about Hanley and her legacy. Safe Passage Executive Director, Trae Holland, and others featured in the book will also be joining us!

If you are unable to make the event, we will be live streaming on our Facebook page from the October 6th book reading at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. You will also find a recording of the event on our blog, starting Friday, October 7th.

From Trash to Treasure

When talent and love have an intention...a fashion event from Guatemala to the world!

If you are in Guatemala, please join us for a fashion event on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 at the French Alliance (5a. Calle 10-55. zona 13, Finca La Aurora). The event begins at 7:30pm – please arrive by 7:00pm to register.

About the Event

We have joined forces with Stare Vie in Guatemala, the first and only physical space in the country, permanently bringing together fashion designers, artists, and emerging and established entrepreneurs. Today it has established itself as a concept store that offers a space for art, culture, fashion, and lifestyle.

This combined effort brings a one-of-a-kind event, featuring work from almost 30 designers, primarily from Guatemala. The goal is to bring people together as a global community and spread awareness about the work we do in Guatemala. Each hand-made, custom piece is created from recycled materials like those found in the Guatemala City garbage dump and all proceeds will go to support our mission.
