International Volunteers

Even if you do not live in Guatemala, there are still a variety of volunteering options you can choose from:

Our Ambassadors are a network of dedicated volunteers across the U.S., and around the globe, who advocate for Safe Passage, fundraise, organize mailings, provide administrative assistance, participate in special events, and forge new friendships across the nation and throughout the world. Contact us to learn more about current U.S. volunteer opportunities.

If you have at least 5 weeks of time, you may work as a classroom assistant, as a member of our administrative team, or with our Adult Education Program.

Volunteers from Guatemala

Guatemalans who wish to support a nonprofit organization in their own country can participate as part or full-time volunteers.

Guatemalan volunteers choose a schedule that works for them, as long as they’re able to work at least twice a week for two hours each time. We ask that those volunteers wishing to have an administrative role commit to at least 3 months, and at least 6 months for a role involving direct work with the children.

  • Fill out and send in the Volunteer Application Form, along with your CV/resume to voluntarios@safepassage.org.
  • Ask 2 references to complete this recommendation form and send it as a PDF to voluntarios@safepassage.org.
  • Schedule a visit to Safe Passage with the Volunteer Program Manager to get to know the different programs.
  • Complete an interview with the Program Coordinator of the area in which you’d like to work.
  • Submit 2 photographs, a copy of your DPI, a background check, and pay Q100.00 to cover the cost of a Safe Passage t-shirt and a name badge.

Support Teams are comprised of 8-12 individuals, community leaders, school groups or friends.

  • 1 week of service.
  • Create and implement a hands-on activity to share with our students.
  • Interact with staff and students and learn firsthand how you can make a difference.
What our volunteers are saying

“The students that I worked with taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Volunteering changed the way I live.” —Gaby, Guatemalan volunteer

“I could say that I owe everything to Safe Passage. I would love to do something so big that it will inspire people to help others.” —Daniel, former student, current volunteer
