PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Learning that Transforms.

Our full-day, accredited school in Guatemala City serves more than 500 students from Pre-K through 9th grade.

Rooted in the principles of Expeditionary Learning (EL), our approach makes learning active, applicable, and deeply engaging. Students learn through inquiry, projects, and real-world problem-solving — cultivating curiosity, leadership, and collaboration.

Each student participates in two expeditions annually – interdisciplinary projects that bring learning to life through hands-on, culturally grounded inquiry. Conducted in Spanish, English, and Kaqchikel, expeditions help students connect academic concepts to the world around them—exploring topics from ecosystems and civic responsibility to social change and environmental stewardship. Through these focused projects, students work in teams, build presentation skills and deepen their responsibility to their communities and environment.

From early childhood classrooms to middle school science labs, each lesson builds academic strength and social-emotional resilience.

Safe Passage also utilizes powerful online learning platforms to advance our students’ academic growth and build technology skills for their futures. Progrentis, developed in Spain and implemented in mostly private schools across Spain and Latin America, is an individualized, interactive platform built on the most advanced pedagogical trends which builds academic, analytic, and critical thinking skills of students. Since implementing Progrentis in our classrooms in 2024, we have seen notable academic growth across every grade. Explorax, an individualized and interactive application developed by the University del Valle in Guatemala, is also used to bring play-based STEM to online education.  Through partnerships such as SEE (Socio-emotional and Ethical) Learning with our partner Mindful Guatemala, our educators nurture empathy, focus, and self-awareness alongside literacy and numeracy. Students graduate not only prepared for the next academic or vocational step but also equipped with the confidence, leadership, and compassion to define their own future, and that of their community and Guatemala.

Every achievement — big or small — is celebrated as part of a community effort that honors agency, curiosity, and shared success.
