Have you ever wondered how partner organizations make a difference at Safe Passage?
- increase our global impact
- provide resources to complete projects
- help to sustain our programs through fiscal support
One of our partners, Rotary International, has been a part of the Safe Passage community since our early days in 2006. The partnership with Rotary is longstanding and continues to get stronger. In fall 2015, Safe Passage Executive Director, Todd Amani, joined Rotary at the Zone Institute in Providence, RI to accept the Rotary International Zone 32 Donald MacRae Peace Award.
Since 2006, Rotary International has helped with several projects in the Guatemala City garbage dump community including:
- critical water and sanitation systems
- multi-purpose playing fields and community garden
- vehicles for collecting supplies and transport students
In recent years, we’ve had several Rotarians share Safe Passage with others. One of these Rotarians is recent Global Woman of Action Deborah Walters and her Kayak for Safe Passage Kids expedition. In fall 2015, Marty Peak Helman shared the touching story of her sponsored student’s incredible journey to high school graduation (an incredible feat in the dump community).
To celebrate these relationships, our Rotarian friends are organizing a service trip to Safe Passage for Rotarians (and spouses!) from May 14-18, 2016. If you are unable to make these dates, but are still interested in traveling to view our program in person, consider joining a Support Team!
This informational flyer will give you an idea of what you can expect on the trip. You can meet Rotarians from clubs in North America and Guatemala, and see first hand how Safe Passage impacts the lives of thousands in the Guatemala City garbage dump community. Meet us in Guatemala and share in service above self with fellow Rotarians—you’ll be thankful you did!
