Without the ability to see the blackboard or read their homework assignments, students all over the world struggle to succeed academically. This week at Safe Passage, 35 students in the Educational Reinforcement Center and 3 mothers in the Adult Literacy program received glasses for the first time in their lives. These students were identified as needing glasses last month during Shared Beat's medical support week, when all students in the ERC received eye exams as part of their annual physicals. English teacher Verity Spice has already noted increased participation in her lessons by two students who were previously unable to read the vocabulary she wrote on the board. It will be exciting to see these students advance in the coming months!
