As I visit Safe Passage it's inspiring to hear the stories of the mothers. Imagine being abandoned by your parents as a toddler, moving to the garbage dump with a distant relative, and working recycling in the dump by age seven. Imagine dreaming of a better life for your children. Imagine spending eight years in the adult literacy program to complete sixth grade, at the same time as working long hours in the dump to
support your children. Imagine the pride when your daughter says she dreams of being a veterinarian. Imagine thinking back on your own childhood and realizing you were living in survival mode and had no dreams. I am so inspired when I hear the stories of the mothers about how thankful they are that with Safe Passage their dreams for their children are becoming a reality.
