Become a Safe Passage Partner
As a Safe Passage Partner your ongoing support will enable us to provide a variety of services to more than 500 children living in extreme poverty. We cannot realize these efforts or provide these services without your ongoing support. Safe Passage Partnership is based on a flexible amount of your choosing per month.
Mothers Literacy Program: The adult literacy program directly benefits the mothers of our children. With the support of a full time Guatemalan teacher and long term volunteer, our mothers, many for the first time, are reading and writing, and as a result are able to help their children with their studies at home. The mothers are also great role models to their children by showing them the importance of receiving an education.
Nutrition Program: We provide each child with a daily healthy meal and snack. This is often the only hot meal they will receive during the day. We also have several children, ages 9-14, assisting in the kitchen and learning food preparation techniques. A Guatemalan cook and assistant plan and prepare the daily lunches and snacks with attention to providing the children with well balanced and nutritional meals and snacks.
Medical Attention: We provide each child and his or her family members with the medical attention so urgently needed. Due to constant exposure to pollution in the garbage dump and to factors associated with their living conditions, there are many health risks such as skin infections, respiratory problems and chronic stomach ailments. We are committed to providing the necessary medicines and medical attention to ensure healthy children and families. Our onsite clinic, which is sponsored by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, allows us to provide more preventative and long term care to our children and their family members.
Special Activities and Excursions: Our children are also offered the opportunity to take part in sports, field trips, and fun activities that allow them to be kids and have a childhood! One recent excursion was for the 4th, 5th and 6th graders... they had the exciting opportunity to go to the national soccer stadium to play soccer! Other activities have included: visits to the zoo, children’s museum and climbing volcano Pacaya.
