Volunteer

Volunteers are a vital and essential part of our program. They work in collaboration with our Guatemalan staff and other volunteers to provide the educational and emotional support necessary for the children in our project to break free from their surrounding poverty.

Most volunteers work as a Teacher's Assistant, helping out in a designated classroom. Other positions exist for volunteers with interests in sports, art, English, literacy, and more.

Announcements for Volunteers:

  • As of January 2010, all new volunteers will begin their volunteer work in the project on only the first or third Monday of each month. These are the two days when Training and Orientation in the project begin.
  • As of January 2011, Guatemala will be commencing an electoral year.  Electoral campaigns in Guatemala are typically accompanied by an increase in violence and insecurity.  Safe Passage's priority is always the safety of its staff, volunteers and families. We will inform you of current safety protocols and recommendations.  Please review any warnings or recommendations your country may have for travel in Guatemala (US citizens can check www.travel.state.gov).
