Our 10th Anniversary
IMAGINE: Another 10 years of Safe Passages
“Let me sing loud and strong so I can do my part for too many who suffer.
This year, I am thrilled to be a voice for Safe Passage at the Guatemala City garbage dump. Together, we can help children go to school and succeed in life – also to sing, play, and laugh as all children should."
~Marta Gómez
In 1999, Safe Passage’s late founder, Hanley Denning, dared to imagine a better life for children and families recycling trash in the toxic environment of the Guatemala City garbage dump. Today, Safe Passage celebrates ten years of providing education and integrated social support to over 500 of Guatemala’s poorest children and their 300 families. The project has been widely recognized as a model for providing life opportunities to impoverished communities and for marshalling local and international ideas, collaboration, volunteerism, and contributions in support of this vision.
For the 10th anniversary of Safe Passage, the organization teams up with the fabulous Colombian singer-songwriter, Marta Gómez, to translate the power of imagination into lyrical Latin music and the imagery of hope and hard work in a series of celebration concerts in the US, Guatemala and Europe.
