Outreach & Communications Coordinator - US Office
Safe Passage works with the poorest at-risk children of families working in the Guatemala City garbage dump. Within a safe and caring environment, we provide a comprehensive and integrated program that fosters hope, good health, educational achievement, self-sufficiency, self esteem and confidence. Safe Passage is currently seeking a full time Outreach and Communications Coordinator to work at its US headquarters in Yarmouth, Maine. This position will support Safe Passage’s world wide network of Friends Groups, undertakes a series of public relations functions and provides support to special events and activities. The Outreach and Communications Coordinator must have strong verbal and written communication skills and also be able to fulfill the responsibilities below. Reports to the US Director/Development Director.
Responsibilities:
· Provide support to and help establish Safe Passage Friends Groups around the world. Assist volunteers and Friends Groups’ special events efforts and special projects.
· In collaboration with the Development Director manages schedule of events.
· Respond to emails and outreach inquiries. Nurture support and build relationships.
· Establish and supervise the Safe Passage Speakers Bureau.
· With Friends Groups & Volunteers, develop Safe Passage products and assist with the marketing of those products.
· Design and implement a marketing and communications program in support of Safe Passage’s development efforts. Staff a Safe Passage marketing and communications committee.
· Write, produce and distribute the monthly e-Newsletter and the printed Newsletter 2 times per year. Support production of the Annual Report.
· Prepare content of the Safe Passage website.
· US press relations.
· In conjunction with other staff, develop and produce brochures and other marketing materials.
· Undertake Special Projects as assigned by the Development Director
Qualifications and Skills:
• At least 3 years experience in public relations, journalism and/ or relationship-building.
• Ability to effectively and comfortably communicate with a diverse range of supporters.
• Exceptional communication skills, including writing and public speaking.
• Strong time management, multi- tasking, and organizational skills required.
• Demonstrated experience using Ms Word, Excel, Power Point, DonorPerfect and graphic software.
• Flexible work schedule – able to work evenings and weekends when needed.
• Spanish proficiency a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree.
